Election signage

The Local Government and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2003 inserted a new section into the Local Government Act 1993 which effectively prevents local governments from prohibiting election signs.

The Scenic Rim Regional Council Election Signs Policy provides clear guidance as to the circumstances in which council will approve election signs.

A brief summary of the policy document follows:

  • Persons wishing to erect election signage must lodge an application for election signage
  • Licences will be issued within one business day of lodging a competent application
  • The applicant for a licence is to pay a bond of $200 for each application submitted (to be lodged at the time of application or within seven days of the licence being granted ). Note that no application assessment fee or individual sign fee will be imposed
  • Licencees must submit an application for refund of bond (election signs) form within 30 days of the completion of the election day otherwise bond monies will not be refunded
