Welcome to the Scenic Rim Regional Council.
The Scenic Rim Regional Council was formed after the March 2008 local government elections. Prior to 2008, the population was divided between the old Beaudesert Shire, old Boonah Shire and a small section of southern Ipswich City Council.
Originally proposed to be named Beaudesert Regional Council, the new Scenic Rim moniker was adopted to reflect the mountainous region the council area falls within.
The Scenic Rim region covers an area of more than 4,250 square kilometres and is home to approximately 34,600 residents. Its operating revenue is around $33 million. The region’s primary businesses are agricultural and horticultural production, the equine industry and tourism and ecotourism.
The regional council covers the towns of Aratula, Beaudesert, Beechmont, Boonah, Canungra, Kalbar, Kooralbyn, Mount Alford, Tamborine Mountain, Rathdowney, Roadview, Harrisville, Peak Crossing and Warrill View.
Divisional councillors are Derek Swanborough (division one), Richard Adams (division two), Virginia West (division three), Dave Cockburn (division four), Kathy Bensted (division five) and Heather Wehl (division six). The mayor is John Brent while the CEO is Craig Barke.
All Scenic Rim councillors are bound by the Councillors Code of Conduct.
The council has a Planning and Development Committee which is chaired by deputy mayor Dave Cockburn and a Corporate and Community Services Committee which is chaired by Cr Richard Adams.
The council operates two administration centres in Boonah and Beaudesert with its main chambers in Beaudesert.
