Following the intense storms in December 2023 / January 2024 that occurred in the Scenic Rim region, a range of disaster assistance has been activated to support impacted Queenslanders.

For individuals
Personal Hardship Assistance is available to residents in affected areas. Supports include payments for emergency essentials like food, clothing and medicine, to help uninsured owner-occupiers make their home safe to live in, to reconnect essential utilities, and to replace essential household contents. Additional support is available from the Australian Government to support Far North Queensland residents affected by Tropical Cyclone Jasper. Payments up to $1,000 are available. Apply by visiting:
For small businesses, primary producers and not-for-profits
Disaster Assistance Loans and Essential Working Capital Loans are available to eligible primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profits. Apply by contacting QRIDA on 1800 623 946 or visit:
Primary producers can also access freight subsidies to alleviate the costs of moving stock and operating materials. Contact DAF on 13 25 23 or visit:

Experiencing an emergency situation or disaster event can be frightening, stressful and exhausting. Recovering from a disaster is a complex process that may take months, even years to overcome. Accessing emotional and social support, spending time talking to family and friends and partaking in active activities can be useful tools in getting back into the rhythm of day to day life.

Scenic Rim Recovery Services
Australian Red Cross
The Australian Red Cross supports communities where a disaster has occurred to offer social and emotional support to people effected and make referrals to other agencies. Farmer Disaster Support
The Farmer Disaster Support website is an initiative of the Queensland Farmer's Federation and is a brilliant resource for farmers affected by disasters in Queensland.

QRIDA administers financial assistance to disaster affected primary producers, businesses and non-profit organisations under the joint Commonwealth/Queensland Government funded Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA). Visit the website:
Receiving and Giving of Community Donations
If you are in need of donated items after an emergency event, such as bedding, furniture or clothing, or are looking for a way to support the Scenic Rim community and those affected by a disaster, visit the GIVIT website:
We appreciate your generosity, however, we ask that you do not leave donations at safe havens or evacuation centres, as these places often become overcrowded and inundated with items.
