Grants support local sport and recreation groups

Six community-based sport and recreation groups have secured funding support for planned projects under Council's Sport and Recreation Grants.

Corporate and Community Services Committee chair Cr Virginia West said the purpose of the program was to support the long-term sustainability of local groups.

"These groups play a vital role in providing opportunities for increased participation in physical activity within the Scenic Rim," she said.

"Sporting groups are a great vessel to build and strengthen the social fabric of our region while encouraging a more active community."

Sport and Recreation Grant recipients in the latest round included Tamborine Mountain Tennis Club, Tamborine Pony Club, Tamborine Mountain Sports Association, Canungra Area and District Golf Club, Boonah Shire Disability Support Group Boonah Shire Disability Support Group and Hayes Oval.

Cr West said Council also resolved to fund an additional grant to Beaudesert Little Athletics to install security sensor lights, camera and security grills under the Community Grants program.

She said Council's Sport and Recreation Grants also assisted sporting groups with seed funding to support applications for additional grants from State Government initiatives.

"For instance, Tamborine Mountain Golf Club used Council's Sport and Recreation funding last year to secure an additional funding from the Get Playing Places and Spaces program to upgrade their amenities block," she said.
