“We aim to provide vibrant library services that meet the informational, cultural and recreational needs of the community.”
Davidson Park is located beside the Council Chambers in close proximity to The Centre along Brisbane Street. The park is one of the only community spaces in central Beaudesert. However its current design means there is limited ability to hold events and gatherings as well as limited accessibility from the footpath and restricted exposure from the street. This, combined with its ageing facilities and tired appearance, has resulted in an underutilised community facility. Our vision draws upon the relocation of the new Beaudesert Library as a catalyst for the revitalisation of Davidson Park as an obvious focal point and heart of the local community and region.
The vision concept created builds upon previous community discussions regarding the future of this site by focusing on concerns relating to access and parking. Further community consultation throughout November 2010 may also affect the ultimate design features of the precinct.
A proposed new vehicular connection between Brisbane Street and Helen Street to the north of the precinct will take pressure off and ease congestion on the township’s main street while potentially significantly improving access to the precinct, including the library. An integrated pedestrian network complements the parking and vehicular access, increasing the levels of pedestrian comfort and increasing safety for all.
Davidson Square is envisioned as a multi-use space, reinforcing the centre of the Beaudesert business district and accommodating a range of community activities and opportunities for social interaction within a sustainable landscape framework. The library’s building design has the opportunity to be the defining feature of the precinct; promoting users to walk between the open courtyard through colonnades to covered pathways and then on the enclosed spaces behind.
Our Goals
Library strategic goals:
In the next five years to 2015, the Scenic Rim Library Service will aim to achieve the six goals as outlined below. These goals are closely linked to those of the State Library of Queensland Expanding Horizons document, and their achievement will play an important part in positioning the Scenic Rim Regional Council Library Service as a highly valued institution and equalling those of faster developing urban Councils.
- Welcoming Spaces – linking people, technology and knowledge. We will offer a wide range of community activities and access to technology that will bring people together to participate in positive social and learning activities.
- Connecting People – providing programs focusing on the community. We will look to provide innovative and creative programs that focus on literacy, new technology and that reach across social and cultural barriers in our community and provide a meeting place and community hub for all.
- Places of learning and leisure – fostering a love of reading. Public libraries provide access to knowledge, culture, history and leisure. Our libraries will respond to changing community needs by providing services to clients in regard to reading and information.
- Links with technology for users - we will link users with new technology and provide learning opportunities to enable them to participate in economic, social, environmental and cultural opportunities.
- Dynamic collections and resources – reflecting community changes. Library collections are the basis of the library service. We will ensure that the collections are up-to-date and relevant, and will endeavour to obtain materials from other library services wherever possible.
- Unlocking the past – Improved access to local history. We will endeavour to preserve the history of the region and to make it accessible to the public to ensure that knowledge of the past is not lost to the future generation.
