Rates Information Rates Information

As a property owner in Scenic Rim region, you are required to pay rates to Scenic Rim Regional Council.

The money collected is used to provide a wide range of community services and facilities such as roads, waste collection, parklands, libraries, recreation and sporting facilities.

Council decided to combine two rating methods, a general rate and a separate community infrastructure charge, to provide a fairer way of rating than having just one rate based on the valuation of the land.

General Rates

Every ratepayer pays a general rate (based on the value of their land) to council as a contribution towards the costs involved in improving and maintaining a wide range of community services such as our roads, public libraries, swimming pools, community centres, parks, playing fields and other facilities.

Land Valuations

Individual property valuations, which form the basis of local government rating, are reviewed by the State Department of Environment and Resource Management.

Property owners are notified of their new land value by mail.

Pensioner Remissions

New pensioners, or pensioners who have recently moved to the Scenic Rim region, need to apply to council to receive the annual State Government rebate on their rates.  Residents who are already registered will continue to recieve their rebate.

Applications are computer-matched with State Government records. Pensioners registered with council will receive the rebate each year without the need to re-apply.
