The New Scenic Rim Planning Scheme
In March 2013 Council commenced preparation of the new Scenic Rim Planning Scheme. The new Planning Scheme will replace the existing planning schemes that apply to the former Beaudesert Shire, Boonah Shire and Ipswich City council areas within the Scenic Rim region, and ultimately govern the region's future development.
The intent of the new Planning Scheme is to provide greater consistency and coordination to land use planning regulation and policy across the region, whilst appropriately recognising the unique characteristics of localities and areas. It will aim to appropriately balance:
• the protection and enhancement of values, lifestyle and characteristics that the community enjoys; and
• the social and economic development and growth of the Region.
The new Planning Scheme will be prepared in accordance with State Government legislation that regulates planning and development, including the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
Significant consultation with the Scenic Rim community and stakeholders will be undertaken at various periods throughout the Planning Scheme preparation process. Details of consultation timing and opportunities will be released at the commencement of each significant phase of the project.

Queensland Planning Provision Version 3
The Queensland Government has finalised the Queensland Planning Provisions (QPP) version 3 and was released on 25 October 2013. The QPP is aiming for a more streamlined planning system in Queensland and will provide a consistent format and structure for all local governments to prepare their planning schemes under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009. The QPP will assist in the implementation and integration of state and regional policies and have the flexibility to address the local circumstances of the local government.
