Eat Local Month delivers record results for Scenic Rim

Scenic Rim Eat Local Month has delivered one of its strongest years yet, boosting the local economy and strengthening the region’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading food and farming destinations.
Following the adoption at this week's Ordinary Meeting of a report on Eat Local Month, Tourism and Regional Events Portfolio Councillor Jennifer Sanders said the 2025 program built on the momentum of recent years, and delivered more events, deeper engagement, and wider reach across Queensland and beyond.
“This year’s Eat Local Month attracted almost 14,000 attendees to more than 110 events, with the majority of those visitors travelling from outside the region,” Cr Sanders said.
“That kind of turnout injects real spending into our towns and villages, supports local jobs, and amplifies the incredible work of our farmers, growers, producers and hospitality operators.”
Independent research shows the event generated more than $2.22 million in direct economic contribution, a 29 percent increase on last year. Visitor spending also rose sharply, with day tripper expenditure up 47 percent and overnight visitor expenditure up 12 per cent.
Mayor Tom Sharp said the results reflect the power of collaboration.
“More than 100 local businesses took part and 91 percent of event holders told us they were satisfied with their ticket sales," Cr Sharp said.
"That tells us the event is working not just as a visitor drawcard but also as a genuine economic driver for our region.
“After 14 years, this event has grown into a movement that connects visitors directly to food, culture and country.”
Cr Sanders acknowledged the long-standing support of Tourism and Events Queensland through the Queensland Destination Events Program, which has helped Scenic Rim Eat Local Month reach Significant Event status.
“We’re also grateful to our sponsors and partners, from local producers through to major regional organisations," she said.
"Their support keeps this event growing and ensures it remains sustainable.”
Planning is already underway for Eat Local Month 2026, with a continued focus on curated itineraries, expanded visitor experiences, increased overnight stays and strengthening partnerships.
“Eat Local Month is something our residents are genuinely proud of; 91 percent of visitors say so."
Eat Local Month won the Gold Award for Excellence in Food Tourism for the region's Eat Local Movement at the 2025 Queensland Tourism Awards.
