Infrastructure

Council is responsible for a vast network of community infrastructure which include roads, pathways, bridges, swimming pools, playgrounds, libraries and public amenities.  Roads and bridges account for over 74 per cent  of Council’s infrastructure assets, forming the core framework of the local transport network. This includes more than 1,750 kilometres of local roads—both sealed and unsealed—and nearly 130 bridges, of which more than half are constructed from timber.

The Council road network stretches from Cunningham's Gap and the Great Dividing Range in the west to Numinbah Gap and the Gold Coast hinterland in the east, south to the New South Wales border and north to the neighbouring council areas of Logan and Ipswich.  It comprises more than 950 kilometres of sealed road and more than 790 kilometres of maintained gravel roads.

Council recognises that effective asset management is essential to delivering sustainable, high-quality services to our community. Council's asset management plans and infrastructure strategies-outlined below balance cost, risk and performance, ensuring Council achieves the best possible value from its assets, today and into the future.
