Work underway on Price Creek Bridge

Scenic Rim Regional Council has welcomed the start of works on the new Price Creek Bridge at Illinbah, a critical project fully funded by the Australian Government to improve safety and connectivity for the local community.
Located near the intersection of Upper Coomera Road and Rowe Road, the more than $3 million project is being delivered under the Australian Government’s Flood Recovery and Resilience Package funded under the former Emergency Response Fund.
Senator Corinne Mulholland said the Australian Government was committed to ensuring essential public assets impacted by disaster in the past were upgraded to a better standard.
“During an emergency, roads like Upper Coomera Road are critical and replacing the low-level crossing with a new concrete bridge will help ensure people can get out of harm’s way and access essential services delivered by our first responders,” she said.
“Less downtime to fix damage caused to road networks is also a game changer when it comes to recovery as communities can get back to their properties faster, along with crews to help clean up and resupply or replace lost or damaged assets.
“The start of construction on this new concrete bridge will mean residents, businesses and workers across Illinbah, Tabletop, Gray, Rowe and Price Creek Roads will be better prepared for future severe weather events, and I’m excited to how this project progresses.”
Division 3 Councillor and Scenic Rim Local Disaster Management Group Chair, Stephen Moriarty, said the new two-lane concrete bridge would replace the existing low-level crossing that is prone to flooding, often cutting off access to homes and businesses in Pine Creek and Illinbah.
“This project will make a big difference for Illinbah and the surrounding areas of Tabletop, Gray and Rowe roads,” Cr Moriarty said.
“The current causeway is the only access point for a number of homes and businesses and, during heavy rain it is regularly inundated, leaving families, school children and elderly residents isolated.
“The Australian Government’s investment means the community will soon have a safer, more reliable connection to the wider road network, which is absolutely vital during times of extreme weather.”
Cr Moriarty said the Price Creek Bridge project builds on recent upgrades across the Scenic Rim that have replaced vulnerable crossings with safer, more resilient structures.
“In recent years we’ve seen the benefits of this kind of investment through projects such as Jerome Bridge, Bennett Bridge, and the replacement of the ageing Flying Fox Bridge at Ferny Glen,” he said.
“The new Price Creek Bridge is another key piece of infrastructure that will improve confidence in our road network and provide peace of mind to families who have chosen to call this beautiful valley home.”
Council has worked closely with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority and Australian Government and to secure the funding and ensure the project meets the needs of the local community.
“I want to thank the Australian Government for its support through the Flood Recovery and Resilience Package,” Cr Moriarty said.
"This investment will not only improve access but, most importantly, strengthen safety and resilience for Pine Creek and Illinbah during extreme wet weather."
Works on the bridge are now underway, with completion expected in 2026.
