Scenic Rim saddles up for another spectacular event

Scenic Rim Regional Council has committed $25,000 towards the 2026 Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular, an annual event which attracts thousands of visitors from outside the region.
Endorsed at today's Ordinary Meeting of Council, the sponsorship comprises $14,760 in direct funding and $10,240 of in-kind support to cover promotion of the event and the provision of waste bins.
Scenic Rim’s Tourism and Regional Events Portfolio Councillor Jennifer Sanders said Council's continued sponsorship of the event reflected its commitment to supporting opportunities that celebrate the region’s rich history and generate economic benefits for the local community.
“Council recognises the valuable contribution this event brings to the region and has provided funding support for the Clydesdale Spectacular since 2022,” she said.
“More than three quarters of visitors to last year’s event were from outside the Scenic Rim and it contributed more than $2.5 million to the local economy, an increase of $300,000 from 2024.”
For the second year running, the Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular from 13 to 14 June will be held at the Beaudesert Showgrounds.
The event celebrates the history and heritage of the Clydesdale horses, which were used to transform the Scenic Rim's bushland into agricultural land by the region’s pioneering families.
It not only features Clydesdales, but also demonstrations of rare trades focused around the heavy horse - harness makers, blacksmiths, wheelwrights and driving displays.
Council’s support for the Clydesdale Spectacular has been made possible through the 2025-2026 Regional Events Program, which supports destination-driven events in the Scenic Rim that attract visitors to region.
“Events such as the Clydesdale Spectacular reinforce the Scenic Rim’s reputation for tourism and enjoyable visitor experiences, while providing an important platform to showcase its capacity to host events of varying size, scope and scale,” Cr Sanders said.
