Catch the buzz around Council’s school holiday program
Published on 23 March 2026
Scenic Rim’s libraries and cultural centres will be hives of activity during the Easter school holidays with free and low-cost activities for all ages featuring enchanted gardens, a bee story and hands-on LEGO workshops.
Councillor Kerri Cryer, who oversees the Council's Community, Arts and Culture Portfolio, said activities ranged from acrobatics and circus performances to Lego and arts and crafts workshops, sustainable garden activities and the ever-popular program of affordable family movies.
"We are delighted to offer this school holiday program, many of which are either at low or no cost to try to ease the pressure on families at this time,” she said.
"Council is committed to providing residents, especially our young families, with opportunities through its Be Healthy and Active program and its arts and cultural activities.
"There really is something for everyone, so check out the Creative Scenic Rim website to keep boredom at bay these Easter holidays.”
Council's feature performance will be A Bee Story at The Centre, Beaudesert, on Tuesday 14 April. Tickets are $15 per person and entry is free for children under two years.
This award-winning and uniquely Australian performance by ARC Circus tells the enchanting story of Queen Bee and Worker Bee, who must learn to work together in the face of adversity.
ARC Circus, based on the Gold Coast, is directed by Robbie Curtis (Circa, Cirque du Soleil, Circus Oz, Australian Ballet), and performer, musician and creator Lizzie McRae.
Catch the buzz and book tickets early through the creativescenicrim.com website.
Children can also Join the Circus for a Day at Boonah Cultural Centre, where Flipside will hold a workshop for those aged seven years and over to try new skills on the ground and in the air.
"This is all about kids having fun, giving things a go and surprising themselves with what they can do,” Cr Cryer said.
Lego Masters Australia’s Andrew and Damian from Clicking Bricks will hold morning and afternoon creative sessions with Street Racer and Alpha Bricks workshops at the Vonda Youngman Community Centre, Tamborine Mountain.
More hands-on fun for children under 12 will be on offer at Scenic Rim Libraries through the Green Thumbs & Enchanted Gardens attraction.
There will be storytelling and craft for five to 12-year-olds, Bug Kids for the under-fives and worm composting and seedling planting for the six to 12 age group.
"Children will leave with hands-on creations, new knowledge about nature and a sense of wonder about the magical world right in their own backyard,” Cr Cryer said.
“What a fantastic way to spark children's interest in nature.
"Families can drop in any time to create a wiggly worm puppet or fluttering butterflies in our bonus Garden Lab where children can make and take home their creations."
Scenic Rim Centres at Beaudesert, Boonah and Tamborine Mountain will present an array of animated children's movies including Flow (G), A Minecraft Movie (PG), How to Train Your Dragon (PG), Zootopia 2 (PG) and Noah's Ark (G). Tickets are available at the door and drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
A must-see at The Centre Beaudesert is the free Mr Chippa the Woodblock Carver of Bagru exhibition based on the delightful children's picture book written and illustrated by Ipswich artist Lee FullARTon.
A highlight of the exhibition is the breathtaking mural showcasing 100 artworks created by Beaudesert State School Year 6 students in a series of workshops.
