Council delivers new amenities for Tamborine Mountain

Scenic Rim Regional Council has completed construction of the upgraded Dapsang Drive amenities block, providing accessible facilities for residents and visitors to Tamborine Mountain.

Mayor Tom Sharp said the new facility’s accessible toilet would be welcomed by the community and visitors to the area near the Tamborine National Park.

"Funded by Council, the upgrade will help ensure public spaces remain welcoming, inclusive and accessible for all residents and visitors,” he said.

"Council looks after public toilet buildings across the Scenic Rim and we're continuing to plan ahead to ensure our amenities continue to meet the needs of our growing community and the increasing number of visitors to the region.

"Council is committed to investing in infrastructure that improves accessibility, supports our community and enhances everyday experiences across the Scenic Rim.

"With more people moving here and many more visitors making the trip to experience what our region has to offer, quality amenities are essential.”

Originally a composting toilet designed for daily use by some 20 people, the Dapsang Drive amenities were converted some 10 years ago to a pump out facility due to increased usage.

As this grew to up to 400 people a day during peak times, such as school holidays, it became clear a larger complex was needed.

The new facility, constructed at a cost of $515,000, has five unisex toilets, including one for disabled access, and an extra effluent holding tank.

A footwash tap has been installed to cater for bushwalkers.

Division 1 Councillor Amanda Hay, who also oversees the Parks and Biodiversity portfolio, said the newly completed Dapsang Drive facility was a significant upgrade.

"The new amenities block will provide a modern, accessible and practical facility for all,” she said.

"Congratulations to our dedicated Council team for bringing this project to completion.

“Like many councils, we're managing ageing infrastructure, vandalism and rising maintenance costs and, as these facilities are a shared community asset, we encourage everyone to take pride in them and treat them with respect.”
