Council grants to benefit community organisations

Scenic Rim Regional Council is providing community organisations with more than $247,000 in grants supporting 36 local projects across the region.

At this week's Ordinary Meeting, Council allocated $168,944 across 10 major projects and $78,574 to 26 organisations for minor projects through Round One of the 2026-2027 Scenic Rim Community Grants Program.

Scenic Rim Mayor Tom Sharp said: "I would like to recognise and thank the people of our region that drive and lead our community organisations."

"It is important for Council to recognise this and support these organisations who are responsible for enriching the social fabric of the Scenic Rim.” 

Scenic Rim's Community, Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Kerri Cryer said Council was proud of the assistance it could offer the region's many community organisations which rely heavily on volunteers.

"These investments will enable local groups to grow, adapt and thrive while creating cultural, recreational and community development opportunities that benefit the broader community," she said.

"In doing so, Council is delivering on its Corporate Plan 2025-2030 strategic goal of Connected Communities, helping to foster resilient, vibrant communities and enhancing the overall social wellbeing of the Scenic Rim.

"The Scenic Rim Community Grants Program not only delivers projects that enrich the lives of local residents but also strengthens the capacity of the community groups that lead them.

"By supporting these initiatives, the program ensures that organisations are better resourced to continue their valuable work."

Scenic Rim's community organisations deliver a wide range of projects, from providing playground and sporting equipment to innovative community support and capacity building projects.

"We're delighted that we can assist with these exciting projects which will help build a better, more cohesive and caring community," Cr Cryer said.

"These allocations represent an investment by Council in the organisations and the people who make our region the attractive place it is to live and grow and is just one example of the many ways in which rates go back into supporting our community."

To facilitate the smooth application process, Council held both online and face-to-face information sessions and provided support to help local groups prepare applications.

"This program delivers substantial benefits for our towns and villages and we are so pleased and excited to invest in these projects which will deliver lasting benefits for our region," Cr Cryer said.

"We have many passionate community groups that work diligently to create positive change in our community and Council is proud to assist in this way."
