Restoration works on Lamington National Park Road are progressing well. While the majority of works are expected to be completed by mid-October 2026, works at the hairpin bend and 1km south of Karamun Lookout Road will continue until December 2026.

The remaining works at the hairpin bend site, between Sarabah and Cainbable, will require a combination of day and night works.

Whats happening

  • Approximately five nights of temporary road closures are currently planned to occur in November 2026. Motorists should monitor variable message signs on approach to the work site for confirmed closure dates.
  • On these nights, a small section of Lamington National Park Road will be closed between 10.30pm and 3.30am due to the limited road width and the nature of the works.
  • Outside of the overnight closure periods, night works may continue as required. Traffic controllers will be in place and motorists may experience temporary traffic holds of up to 10 minutes.
  • During night works, a reduced speed limit of 40km/h for cars and 20km/h for trucks and buses will apply through the work area.
  • During the day, the road will revert to standard construction traffic conditions, including stop/slow traffic control and shuttle-flow arrangements as required.
  • Day works will be undertaken Monday to Saturday, between 6.00am and 6.00pm. Night works will be undertaken, Sunday – Thursday, between 6:00pm and 6:00am
  • Traffic controllers and directional signage will assist motorists through the work area.
  • Motorists should make alternative arrangements during road closure periods and allow additional travel time outside closure times.
  • Priority access will be provided for emergency vehicles where possible.
  • Construction vehicles and machinery will operate in the area, including material deliveries. Vehicles and machinery will use flashing lights and reversing beepers for safety.

It is important to note that the work schedule may be delayed or impacted in the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Upcoming restoration works

Later this year, additional reconstruction works will commence on Lamington National Park Road approximately 16.2km from Canungra. The work will include soil nailing, shotcreting and drainage, pavement, guardrail and fence reinstatement. All work will be undertaken within the road reserve, above and below the road. Work is expected to take about six months to complete.

Works to repair damage after Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in March 2025 are expected to commence in the first half of 2027.
