School holiday program promises a roaring good time

There will be loads of laughter, hands-on fun and music-filled adventures across the Scenic Rim during Council's spring school holiday program.

From dinosaurs to drumming, dance and dreaming storytimes, the libraries' and cultural centres' program is packed with affordable activities for all ages with a focus on family fun.

Scenic Rim's Council’s Community, Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Kerri Cryer said the program aimed to provide local families with affordable and accessible ways to make the most of the school holidays.

“I know school holidays can sometimes be a challenging time for families, so it is fabulous to be able to offer a program that gives children and young people fun, creative and engaging activities close to home,” she said.

“There are plenty of free activities on offer, along with creative workshops that require bookings. I encourage families to look through the program and book early where registration is needed, as places may be limited.

“I'd also highly recommend Council's Kids' Flicks movie sessions which are great value with all tickets just $5 each."

The Centre Beaudesert will feature a one-hour family performance - Erth's Dinosaurs - designed to ignite curiosity, imagination and awe - in the first week of the school holidays.

Scenic Rim Libraries will be turning up the volume with a jam-packed program of live music, drumming, songwriting and storytelling events across Beaudesert, Boonah, Canungra and Tamborine Mountain libraries.

Running from Saturday 19 September to Sunday 4 October, the free 'music' themed program offers something for every age, from babies and toddlers to teenagers.

Highlights include:

Deano Yipadee brings his hit interactive stage show, complete with singing, dancing and musical comedy, to Beaudesert, Boonah and Tamborine Mountain.

Teenagers can get hands-on at Library Loops, a three-hour hip-hop songwriting and recording workshop with Art Beat Creative, where participants leave with their own recorded track.

Little ones can sing and dance along with Happy Singing Kids, a playful musical session from composer and vocalist Susanna O'Leary.

Kids aged 4 to 12 can bang out a rhythm at Beat the Bongo!, a djembe drumming workshop at Canungra Library.

Families are invited into an imaginative musical world with Ellis and the Night Orchestra, a chamber music and theatre production for young audiences, with a bonus workshop for little ones eight years and under at Tamborine Mountain.

Dreaming Storytime with Aunty Rhonda and Jacki brings the picture book Old Nana Quokka: Caring for Country to life at Canungra Library with puppetry and song.

Monsters! Art Workshop. Tuesday 29 September, 10:30am. For ages 5-12 years to have fun creating silly, spooky, colourful, and quirky monsters with award-winning children's book illustrator Lucia Masciullo! In this two-hour creative hands-on workshop, kids will use pencils, crayons, markers, and paint to design colourful patterns and textures. Tickets $15.
Eat My Dust! Watercolour workshop. Tuesday 29 September, 1:30pm - 4pm. For ages 8-12 years to have fun and be bold using ink and watercolour with Lucia Masciullo. Workshop inspired by her colourful exhibition, Eat My Dust! on display at The Centre Beaudesert regional gallery (September to December 2026). In this fun, 2.5-hour hands-on workshop, kids will discover how to create bold ink drawings and bring them to life with bright, expressive watercolours. All materials provided. Street Racers Workshop (Boonah). Wednesday 30 September, 11am. Build it. Race it. Keep it! Clicking Bricks presents a family-friendly brick‑tastic one-hour workshop of fun, creativity and LEGO with duo, Andrew and Damian, stars of LEGO® Masters Australia. Tickets $10 - $16.

Vonda Youngman Community Centre: 2 Knoll Road, Tamborine Mountain

Monsters! Art Workshop. Wednesday 30 September, 10:00am. For ages 5-12 years to have fun creating silly, spooky, colourful, and quirky monsters with award-winning children's book illustrator Lucia Masciullo! Kids' Flicks @ Scenic Rim Centres presents

The Magic Faraway Tree (G) an animated adventure fantasy film about a modern family relocating to the countryside where the children discover a magical tree with eccentric residents. They're transported to fantastical lands, rekindling their family bond through adventures.
Cars (G) an animated, adventure comedy from Disney celebrating the 20^th anniversary of the original Pixar classic film. Lightning McQueen, a hotshot rookie race car driven to succeed, discovers that life is about the journey, not the finish line, when he finds himself unexpectedly detoured in the sleepy Route 66 town of Radiator Springs.
Hoppers (PG) an animated adventure science fiction comedy where scientists have discovered how to 'hop' human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals. Animal lover Mabel seizes an opportunity to use the technology, uncovering mysteries within the animal world beyond anything she could have imagined.
Moana 2026 (PG) a fantasy adventure comedy about teenage Moana who answers the Ocean's call. For the first time, Moana voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with infamous demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.
Toy Story 5 (G). This classic animation tells the story of when Bonnie who receives a Lilypad tablet as a gift and becomes obsessed, Buzz, Woody, Jessie. The rest of the gang's jobs become exponentially harder when they have to go head-to-head with the all-new threat to playtime.
Buffalo Kids (PG) In 1886, orphaned Irish siblings Mary and Tom arrive in New York City via ocean liner, and quickly find themselves on a wild, cross-country journey aboard a transcontinental 'Orphan Train', where they meet an extraordinary new friend who will change their lives forever.
Zootopia 2 (PG). After cracking the biggest case in Zootopia's history, rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find themselves on the twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De'Snake arrives and turns the animal metropolis upside down.
