Residents to benefit from extended Library access

The community is invited to help celebrate a new chapter in local library services as Scenic Rim Libraries officially launches Smart Lockers and Smart Return Shelves at Beaudesert Library.
Today's special launch event with Councillor Kerri Cryer, who oversees the Community Arts and Culture portfolio, recognises the completion of a significant library services capital project that brings innovative technology to the heart of the Beaudesert community.
The new Smart Lockers - located just outside the library entrance - enable residents to collect reserved items 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, extending access well beyond traditional opening hours.
"This is about making our library work smarter for our community," Cr Cryer said.
"Whether you're a shift worker, a busy parent, or simply can't make it in during opening hours, you can now collect your reserved items at a time that suits you."
Complementing the lockers, new Smart Return Shelves allow customers to self-return items using the library's existing RFID infrastructure. Returned items are made immediately available for other community members to borrow, reducing wait times and keeping the collection accessible.
Together, these improvements streamline how residents interact with library collections while freeing up staff to focus on what matters most - delivering high-quality, personalised services to customers.
Cr Cryer said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to modernising library services across the region.
"We're proud to bring this level of convenience and accessibility to Beaudesert. This is just one part of our ongoing work to ensure our libraries remain vibrant, flexible, and responsive to the needs of our growing communities."
Scenic Rim Library's Smart Lockers and Smart Return Shelves are now operational at Beaudesert Library, 58 Brisbane Street.
