10 FEBRUARY - SEASONAL WEATHER PROMPTS THE NEED TO WEED

Seasonal weather conditions of stormy and sunny days provide the ideal environment for the growth and spread of pest plants and weeds. Scenic Rim Regional Council conducts weed management on council-administered lands, however, weed control on private property is the responsibility of landholders.

9 FEBRUARY - RESILIENCE FUNDING TO IMPROVE INFRASTRUCTURE

Council has been awarded more than $340,000 in Queensland Government assistance to enhance the resilience of infrastructure to future disaster events. The funding, which has been allocated through the 2015-16 Community Resilience Fund, represents a 40% co-contribution towards the cost of two eligible Council infrastructure improvement projects.

8 FEBRUARY - COUNCIL CARETAKER PROTOCOL COMES INTO EFFECT

The countdown to the March local government election has commenced with Council entering a caretaker period ahead of the March 19 poll date. Council's Caretaker Period Protocol came into effect from Saturday 6 February with the opening of nominations for the upcoming poll and will remain in force until the declaration of the election result after the March 19 poll.

5 FEBRUARY - COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENT GROW TOGETHER

Applications for the 2016 round of Council’s Community Trees Initiative are now open to community groups across the Scenic Rim. The initiative provides community groups, social clubs, sporting associations and school groups with the opportunity to do something positive for the environment by planting trees in their local area.

5 FEBRUARY - JUMP INTO A HEALTHY AND ACTIVE 2016

The Be Healthy & Active Program is bigger and better than ever in 2016 with an increased variety of activities and events promoting health and fitness for all ages and abilities. Council has again partnered with an array of organisations to deliver a packed program of activities from 8 February to 1 May under the Be Healthy & Active banner.

29 JANUARY - BEAUDESERT STREET TO BE NAMED AFTER CHAMPION GOLFER

Champion golfer Jason Day is to be honoured in his home town of Beaudesert with the naming of a new road in recognition of his sporting achievements. Scenic Rim Regional Council will officially dedicate one of the first streets in the new town's Oakland Estate development as "Jason Day Drive".

27 JANUARY - NEW SUBDIVISION APPROVED FOR KALBAR

Council has approved the development of 58 residential lots in Kalbar comprising stages 2 and 3 of the former Engels Hill Residential Estate. Mayor John Brent said the proposed development involved the reconfiguration of a lot on Edward Street, Kalbar.

27 JANUARY - QUARRY APPROVAL GRANTED SUBJECT TO CONDITIONS

Council today approved a development application for a quarry located at Christensen Road, Mount Walker, subject to a comprehensive list of conditions.

27 JANUARY - SCENIC LOOKOUT RESTORATION FUND

Council has nominated the Hang Gliders Lookout on Main Western Road, Tamborine Mountain for a funding grant through the Scenic Lookout Restoration Fund.

27 JANUARY - COUNCIL TO SEEK HEAVY VEHICLE SAFETY FUNDING

Council will seek Federal funding through the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program to support improved road and safety conditions for Tarome Road.
