The Overflow Estate 1895 is cooking up a storm for Scenic Rim Eat Local Month in June

Indulge in Australia’s most authentic paddock-to-plate experience and savour a smorgasbord of flavours and fun during Scenic Rim Eat Local Month this June.

Now in its second year as a month-long celebration, Eat Local Month gives locals and visitors a backstage pass to the farms, wineries, breweries, chefs, and stories of the Scenic Rim, offering an exploration of the heart of the region – Beaudesert, Kerry and Rathdowney – over the weekend of 21 to 23 June.

The fourth weekend of Eat Local Month commences on Friday 21 June with a leisurely Long Lunch at The Overflow Estate 1895 curated by Scenic Rim Food Ambassador Olivier Boudon.

This will be followed by the delectable A Taste of Local Dinner at Ned’s Steakhouse in Beaudesert on Friday evening which will feature local beef and vegetables harvested from Scenic Rim farms.

Saturday 22 June features an on-farm experience that’s sure to interest the green thumbs, the Growing Roots Crops Workshop at Oaky Creek Farm.

While you are out and about exploring the region, why not drop into Rathlogan Olive Grove and The Shed Café on your travels to pick up some of their delicious olives, tapenade, jams, and relishes.

Then it’s time to cap off a spectacular Saturday with family and friends at the Sunset Session at The Overflow Estate 1895, nestled along the lovely Lake Wyaralong.

This event may well prove to be the highlight of the weekend with live music by local country music sensation, Laura Frank, local food, signature wine, and a stunning sunset all on the menu.

Sunday 23 June caters to the nature lovers, with the Campfire Lunch and Nature Immersion in the Forest all-day vegetarian adventure near Mount Chinghee National Park, and Wilde Food’s Native Foods Tasting Tour which pairs sustainable land practices with the flavours of native Australia.

Why not invite your family and friends to linger a little longer and book an authentic farm stay experience at Tommerup’s Dairy Farm, Cedar Glen Farmstay at Darlington, or Worendo Cottages set in the stunning Lost World Valley overlooking Lamington National Park’s World Heritage-listed rainforest.

If that doesn't whet your appetite, there is plenty more to explore throughout Eat Local Month in the heart of the Scenic Rim as we celebrate Beaudesert’s Sesquicentennial Anniversary (150 years) and 150 years of farming at Tommerup’s Dairy Farm.

Towri Sheep Cheeses will host its direct-from-the-farmer Towri Growers’ Market on Saturday 1 June followed by a Cheese Making Workshop on Wednesday 12 June, and the Feast and Fire open-fire cooking class on Friday 14 June.

For those looking for a relaxed Friday long lunch, The Overflow Estate 1895 is cooking up a storm with a delicious five-course menu on Friday 7 June, Friday 14 June, and Friday 28 June.

Scenic Rim Mayor Tom Sharp said Eat Local Month was an authentic celebration of the region’s food, produce, farmers, and natural beauty with a packed program including farm gate events, hands-on workshops, and unique culinary experiences.

“Now in its second year as a month-long event, Scenic Rim Eat Local Month showcases and celebrates our region’s friendly, relaxed country lifestyle, our stunning natural beauty and of course, our award-winning local produce,” he said.

“Locals and visitors alike will be spoiled for choice with our carefully curated program, which includes everything from luxurious long lunches to decadent dinners hosted by leading Queensland chefs, farm gate experiences, tastings, tours, talks, and masterclasses and workshops for all ages, tastes and budgets.

“The month-long festivities culminate in the signature event, the Winter Harvest Festival on Saturday 29 June, where attendees can celebrate the most abundant time of year for our region and enjoy fresh, local and seasonal produce at its finest.

“With over 120 events to choose from, there’s plenty to see and do across the spectacular Scenic Rim this June.”
