Scenic Rim to be represented at global summit in Dubai

Scenic Rim Mayor Tom Sharp will represent the region at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum (2025APCS) in Dubai in October, joining leaders, innovators and businesses from across the globe to explore the future of cities.
Ahead of the summit, Cr Sharp will join the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Business Mission to Dubai, led by the Council of Mayors (SEQ), following endorsement of his participation in both events at today's Ordinary Meeting of Council.
Cr Sharp said the mission would provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships, promote regional interests, and advocate for the Scenic Rim as part of the wider South East Queensland community.
"The Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors' Forum is one of the most diverse convenings of Mayors, city leaders, business executives and young professionals worldwide," he said.
"This opportunity puts the Scenic Rim on the world stage inviting investment opportunities to the international community.
“The summit is a powerful platform to connect with global leaders, explore cutting-edge ideas, and ensure our region’s voice is heard in international conversations about resilience, innovation and connectivity."
This year’s theme, Collaborate. Inspire. Transform, aligns strongly with the Scenic Rim’s vision for sustainable growth, agricultural resilience and community prosperity.
"By participating, we are able to showcase the Scenic Rim’s strengths, while also learning from global best practice.”
The 2025APCS will be held at Expo City Dubai and will include plenary sessions, deep-dive workshops, curated field trips, and opportunities to connect directly with decision-makers shaping the Asia Pacific region.
With an alumni of more than 600 cities from around the world, the APCS is one of the largest and most diverse gatherings of mayors and city leaders.
The APCS was founded in 1996 and is Brisbane City Council's signature, biennial, international event for driving economic growth for Brisbane, South East Queensland, Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region.
Cr Sharp said the mission is fully funded through Council’s annual levy to the Council of Mayors (SEQ).
“Participation in this mission comes at no additional cost to Scenic Rim ratepayers, but the potential benefits for our region are significant," he said.
On his return, Cr Sharp will present a full report to Council on the outcomes of the mission and the summit.
