Join In The Fun Of Scenic Rim's Autumn Events Program

With Council's Autumn JOin program about to hit letterboxes across the Scenic Rim, Mayor Greg Christensen is encouraging the community to join in the wide range of free and low-cost activities on offer across the region in coming months.

Cr Christensen said the 76-page booklet launched today incorporates the April 2019 school holiday program and all that is on offer at Council's libraries and cultural centres as well as community events and opportunities to enjoy the spectacular scenery and natural environment for which the Scenic Rim is renowned.

"Council is proud to present this exciting array of events and activities which has something for every age, interest and ability," he said.

"There are workshops with artists and authors, movies and kids' flicks, live performances, concerts, exhibitions, environmental initiatives and a wide range of activities to encourage everyone to embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle.

"There's a world of fun for the school holidays, with a range of free and low-cost activities for families and children to enjoy over the Easter break, as well as a packed program of cultural and recreational opportunities continuing through to June and beyond."

The Off The Page exhibition of children's book illustrations, which opens at The Centre Beaudesert on Saturday 6 April and runs to 12 June 2019, has inspired many of the school holiday offerings.

There will be a free family fun day on Saturday 6 April at The Centre Beaudesert with children's activities, a free movie screening of Miss Potter and an opportunity to meet illustrators whose works are included in the Off The Page exhibition showcasing classic and contemporary children's books.

The school holiday program includes workshops with award-winning illustrator Stephen Axelsen on how to make a children's picture book and how to draw monsters as well as monster-themed creative cooking workshops presented by Greenstuff Nutrition, where fun is the key ingredient in making healthy snacks.

Kids' flicks at Boonah Cultural Centre and The Centre Beaudesert, at just $5 for adults and children including a drink and a snack, are the best school holiday value in town.

Other recent release movies which will screen on Fridays at the Boonah Cultural Centre in coming months include Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, Ladies in Black and Gurrumul, the story of Indigenous musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

"Council's libraries across the region will also be happening places, with author talks and a range of arts and craft activities for adults and the young and young-at-heart," Cr Christensen said.

The JOin booklet will be delivered directly to Scenic Rim households and will also be available at Council's libraries and Customer Contact Centres or downloaded from www.liveatthecentre.com.au
