Hop to it and enjoy a night under the stars at Scenic Rim Regional Council's Saturday night Movies in the Park next month.

The Free Movies in the Park program will feature the family-friendly tale of Peter Rabbit on the big screen at Beaudesert, Tamborine Mountain and Boonah to celebrate National Families Week in May.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the early evening events were not only for families but also aimed to bring the community together in a relaxed setting.

"Whether you're young or just young-at-heart, these free events are a great way to connect with others in your community," he said.

The Free Movies in the Park sessions will kick off at 5.30pm for a 6pm start on the following dates at these locations:

  • Saturday 11 May: Tamborine Mountain Sports Complex,
  • Saturday 18 May: Coronation Park, Boonah, and
  • Saturday 25 May: Jubilee Park, Beaudesert.

With a free movie, popcorn and giveaways, movie-goers need only bring their own chairs and blankets.

Local clubs will be selling food and drinks and there will be gas heaters to ward off the chill.

Peter Rabbit is a new take on Beatrix Potter's classic tale of a rebellious rabbit trying to sneak into Mr McGregor's vegetable garden. Peter will stop at nothing to drive Mr McGregor away as the two wage war over the garden and Bea's affection.
