Scenic Rim sporting and recreation clubs, community organisations and health professionals are invited to team with Council in providing future activities under the Be Healthy and Active program.

Expressions of interest open on Monday 13 May and continue until Wednesday 29 May.

Providers can nominate for the line-up of free and low-cost activities to be run between September 2019 and August 2020.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the Be Healthy and Active program not only encouraged health and fitness across all age groups and abilities, but also provided an avenue to strengthen community connections.

"We want the 2019-2020 program to continue to offer a huge array of locally based providers, so I encourage businesses and organisations to express their interest in helping deliver the program," he said.

Many providers who offered activities this year shared positive feedback to Council highlighting the benefits they enjoyed from their involvement in the program.

"This program is an opportunity for our local providers to be promoted through Council's networks, increase their business profile and connect with various key community events, all while creating a healthier community and sharing valuable wellbeing knowledge," Cr Christensen said.

"We have seen great participation for our sports and recreational activities which have included  cooking classes, card groups, line dancing, men's groups, canoeing and family bushwalking days.

"There really are activities available for every age group and fitness level."

During Term 1, 2019 there were 48 free and low-cost activities including health and nutrition seminars, indoor pastimes, information sessions and numerous sports and recreation programs available across 15 Scenic Rim locations.

Service providers, community groups, sport and recreation clubs and individuals interested in providing a program or activity in the Be Healthy and Active Program should visit www.scenicrim.qld.gov.au/healthy-and-active-community to download the expression of interest information sheet and application form.
