Two groups which represent vital threads in the fabric of Scenic Rim communities have been granted extensions of their leases by Scenic Rim Regional Council.

Council has extended its management agreements with the Moriarty Park Community Sporting Centre at Canungra and the Lions Club of Fassifern at Kalbar, both for a 12-month term with a further one-year option.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Council was pleased to extend the leases for both groups which contributed to the health and wellbeing of residents and the liveability of Scenic Rim communities.

"Council is also pleased to support sporting and community organisations which play an important role in helping to achieve its shared Community Plan vision for healthy, engaged and resourceful communities throughout the Scenic Rim region," he said.

"Organisations such as these which rely on volunteers who give generously of their time and devote their energy to fundraising activities to make a difference to their communities are well worthy of Council's support.

"Both the Moriarty Park Community Sporting Centre and the Lions Club of Fassifern have managed and maintained their respective sites to Council's satisfaction throughout the terms of their agreements."

The new lease on the Lions Club premises at George Street Kalbar took effect on 1 July 2019.

Division 6 Councillor Duncan McInnes said: "Lions Club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local communities and further afield and make a great contribution to our Scenic Rim way of life."

The Moriarty Park Community Sporting Centre's new lease on property at Monarch Drive Canungra, will run from 1 December 2019.

Division 3 Councillor Virginia West said: "The Moriarty Park complex hosts a range of sporting and social events throughout the year and provides a focal point for community life in Canungra and surrounding areas. The excellent appearance of the complex is a tribute to the management committee led for many years by Bren Dalby."

For consistency of leases and management agreements, Council has extended the leases for 12 months while it completes its Sports Infrastructure and Community Facilities Strategic Review.
