Sporting and active recreation groups that play a key role in Scenic Rim community life and contribute to the health and well-being of residents will share in more than $87,000 of Council grants.

Nine groups will benefit from Council's 2019-20 Sport and Active Recreation Grants program, with funding to improve facilities and their ability to provide services in the Scenic Rim.

Mayor Greg Christensen said projects which supported long-term sustainability within the region were assessed against criteria including increased participation, community benefit and addressing identified needs within Council's strategic plans.

"Not only will this investment lead to physical benefits, it will also foster social connections, improve information sharing, embed a sense of community pride and lead to stronger, more resilient communities," he said.

Projects eligible for Council's Sports and Active Recreation grants range from facility improvements to field maintenance, equipment, construction materials or leverage funding for larger facility projects.
