Council Makes it a Date for 2018

Scenic Rim Regional Council has set its Ordinary Meeting dates for January to March 2020 in the lead-up to the Queensland local government elections.

At its Ordinary Meeting this week, Council adopted dates for the first four meetings of the year prior to the local government elections to be held on Saturday 28 March 2020.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the announcement of the meeting dates was in line with the Local Government Act 2009 which required councils to publish a notice of the dates and times of its Ordinary Meetings.

"A caretaker period, which extends from when nominations are called for the quadrennial election until the declaration of the polls, will apply to local government across Queensland, restricting councils from making major policy decisions unless the circumstances are exceptional and approval has been sought from the Minister," he said.

"With the approaching election, care will be taken regarding the reports included in Council's Ordinary Meetings scheduled within the caretaker period to ensure compliance with the restrictions."

The following dates have been scheduled for Council's first Ordinary Meetings of the new year, beginning at 9am at the Chambers, 82 Brisbane Street, Beaudesert:

  • Monday 20 January 2020
  • Monday 3 February 2020
  • Monday 17 February 2020, and
  • Monday 9 March 2020.

Details of the meeting dates will be published on Council's website and advertised in local newspapers.
