Council has approved the renaming of Dugandan Oval to Ron Bushby Oval in honour of the late Fassifern cricket stalwart.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Council was approached by Fassifern Cricket Association with the proposal to change the oval's name to recognise the late Mr Ron Bushby.

"Mr Bushby was a life member of the Fassifern Cricket Association where he contributed as a player, curator, committee member and volunteer.

"He also made a significant contribution to cricket outside of the region within the Queensland Country Cricket Association.

"As one of the association members who installed the original turf cricket block, it's important that his legacy is carried on at this facility, which continues to foster an active and healthy lifestyle for our community," he said.

The entirety of the park will remain known as Dugandan Park, with the cricket oval area only to be renamed to Ron Bushby Oval. The area of the park known as Toby Slater Park will remain unchanged.
