TEMPORARY RATES RELIEF TO AID DISASTER AFFECTED PROPERTIES

Scenic Rim Regional Council recently resolved to grant a temporary rate relief to residential and local businesses still suffering hardship in the wake of the recent bushfire events.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Council voted unanimously to extend the rates deferment period until the end of next year for affected ratepayers that fit the criteria.

"We recognise the bushfires have caused impacts to our communities and both rural and commercial businesses and this will allow those suffering hardship to have some breathing space, arrange insurance matters and get back on their feet," said Cr Christensen.

"Eligible ratepayers can defer their rates payments without interest until 31 December 2020.

"If your property, or the land you usually make revenue from, has been physically impacted by the fires then Council encourages you to call Council's Rates Department on 07 5540 5111 to discuss potential eligibility."
