Hot off the press, Join In, Council's sizzling program of 2020 summer events and activities is now being distributed throughout the Scenic Rim.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the region's connection to the natural environment and its creative communities have inspired a kaleidoscope of cultural and recreational activities, including school holiday events, concerts, movies, art exhibitions, environmental workshops and the Be Healthy and Active program.

"While families and children are a focus for the Join In 2020 summer program, there's something for everyone, with plenty of free and low-cost activities for all ages and abilities delivered by qualified fitness and health professionals," he said.

"Scenic Rim residents whose New Year's resolutions include shaping up and embracing a healthier and more active lifestyle are sure to find something in the Be Healthy and Active summer program.

"With an array of affordable activities, Be Healthy and Active is not only about encouraging individual fitness across all age groups and abilities but also strengthening community connections."

The summer line-up includes new activities such as Music for the Heart, pottery classes, cooking workshops by the Wonglepong Queensland Country Women's Association, Gym Buddies sessions for people with disabilities and the return of aqua aerobics to Canungra swimming pool.

The first Join In program for 2020 introduces Council's cultural program for the year, aptly titled 2020 Vision, which premieres with the Life On Film exhibition on Friday 17 January.

The exhibition features works from the Queensland Art Gallery's collection and showcases digital and new media works by Scenic Rim and visiting artists, students and young filmmakers exploring local stories and perspectives on life.

The Join In school holiday program features a range of activities and events provided through Council's libraries and cultural centres.

Kids' Flicks screenings of recent-release movies - at $5 for all tickets for family movies including admission, a drink and a snack - represent the best value for boredom busting family fun.

Scenic Rim libraries are also hubs of holiday activity, with art and craft sessions, visits by the Bush Buddies native wildlife presenters, children's storytimes, board games and talks by local children's author Adam Ariel.

"I encourage everyone to make the most of summer in the Scenic Rim by grabbing a copy of our Join In program and joining in the wide range of activities provided by Council to entertain, educate and engage," Cr Christensen said.

Join In is available at Scenic Rim libraries, customer service centres, visitor information centres, cultural centre box offices and local cafes and can be downloaded from Council's website at https://www.scenicrim.qld.gov.au/join-1/join
