Cedar Creek Lodges is looking to grow its team at the World of Work

Local businesses and community members will have the opportunity to connect at the World of Work - Scenic Rim Careers and Business Expo on Thursday 18 March in Beaudesert.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the World of Work builds on the successful Scenic Rim Jobs and Skills Fest, which was held in November 2019.

"This event will be bigger than last time, and held at the Beaudesert Showgrounds so employers with larger outdoor displays can be accommodated," he said.

"The 2019 was so successful, and due to COVID-19, our plans to hold another one in 2020 were put on hold until now.

"We've already got 25 exhibitors lined up from various industries including healthcare, defence, hospitality, tourism, turf, transport and construction - there's something for everyone."

One of Tamborine Mountain's largest employers, Cedar Creek Lodges, is one of the many exhibitors looking to connect with prospective local employees at the World of Work.

Tamara Gray, Cedar Creek Lodges General Manager said that while business was thriving since the reopening post COVID lockdown, it has been a massive challenge to find staff.

"We currently have a team of 78 and are looking forward to attending the World of Work Expo, where we hope to find 20 new recruits with appropriate skillsets, or the willingness to learn," she said.

"The World of Work is a great initiative, and will hopefully boost employment outcomes in our beautiful region."

Mayor Christensen said while the World of Work will have a jobs board of local vacancies, the event was not only designed for job seekers.

"The main objective of the World of Work is to make connections," he said.

"There's a great range of businesses within the Scenic Rim, and attendees will be able to meet with local employers and understand more about what they do and what types of jobs are available now or in the future.

"Attendees will also be able to ask about career and training pathways, as well as find out information about apprenticeships and traineeships.

"This is really important for our young people as they start navigating their future career paths.

'During the course of the day, we are expecting more than 500 senior students from schools across the Scenic Rim.

"These young people need to know there are meaningful career options for them to pursue that are close to home, so they can be part of our region's exciting future."
