Springing into the September school holidays

So much to choose from for school age children in the Scenic Rim this holidays.

There will be no reason for the kids to complain about being bored these school holidays, with the Scenic Rim Regional Council delivering more than 40 fun-filled activities for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said Council's list of free and low-cost activities meant families could enjoy some quality time together without breaking the bank. 

"School holidays can be an expensive time for families, which is why Council is pleased to deliver an exciting calendar of events that is affordable and fun for all ages and interests," he said.

"Families will be able head to their local library and participate in more than 22 free activities, which range from story and rhyme time, author talks and craft workshops, Lego building sessions, games and even the chance to make your own frog habitat to take home."

Council's cultural and community centres will also be a hive of activity, where kids can learn a new skill or passion.

"There will be cooking classes for budding young chefs to learn new recipes, theatre workshops for aspiring actors to test their drama skills, watercolour workshops for creative kids to learn new techniques, as well as drumming and rhythm workshops for youngsters who love music," Cr Christensen said. 

"These low-cost activities range in price from $12 to $25 per person, which covers the costs of materials used."

Council's popular Kids' Flicks will also be returning, with a number of Hollywood blockbusters being shown on the big screen. Families should head on down to the Boonah Cultural Centre, The Centre Beaudesert and Zamia Theatre in Tamborine Mountain to watch special screenings of Dream Builders, Maya the Bee 3, Raya and the Last Dragon, Spirit Untamed and Tom and Jerry. 

"Going to the movies has long been a favourite pastime for families, and with this line-up of movies there are going to be a lot of happy young ones," Cr Christensen said.

"At only $5 a ticket, that means there is extra left over for movie snacks.”
