Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen is urging residents to step up and get vaccinated locally at COVID-19 Pfizer Vaccination Hubs following news the local government area is below state and national vaccination rates.

According to the Australian Government's Operation COVID Shield daily vaccine rollout data, 64.6 per cent of Queenslanders and 76.7 per cent of Australians have had their first dose as at 28 September 2021.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the Australian Government's geographic statistics reported that 60.0 per cent of Scenic Rim residents had received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and only 39.2 per cent were fully vaccinated as at 27 September 2021.

"We are behind other areas of Queensland when it comes to getting vaccinated so it's great to see new pop-up vaccination hubs for Beaudesert, Boonah and Kalbar to make it more accessible for our residents,” he said.

"Anyone aged 12 and over is now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine at these COVID-19 Pfizer Vaccination Hubs, and with your GP.

"Council has also been advised that the Moderna vaccine has arrived in community pharmacies this week, and the AstraZeneca vaccine is still available from participating GPs and pharmacies.

"Whether it's Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Moderna, the COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect against severe illness from COVID-19.

“Here in the Scenic Rim we have been fortunate to have been COVID safe throughout the pandemic, however, we cannot become complacent and must do our part to protect the most vulnerable in our community.

"It's time for the Scenic Rim to roll up its sleeves and boost our vaccination rates to ensure our state and national COVID-19 vaccination targets can be met and restrictions and border closures can ease.

"We want to keep our economy open and to be able to welcome visitors safely into our region.

"In consultation with my GP, I got vaccinated to protect myself, my family, and my community from the more serious side effects of the disease, some of which can be very long lasting, and I encourage you to do the same.

"To make an informed personal decision about the vaccine, I recommend you seek vaccination information from a medical professional."
