Today we pause to mark the passing of a former Mayor of our region, Ron Munn.

Ron served as Mayor of the Beaudesert Shire Council from 2000 to 2004 and was well known for his contribution to the local community and the equestrian world.

Born in Brisbane, he grew up in Toowoomba where he became an apprentice fitter and turner before moving to Rockhampton where he worked as an Industrial Research Officer in the central Queensland coalfields.

Relocating to South East Queensland, he operated businesses at Chambers Flat and Beenleigh and founded the Jimboomba Chamber of Commerce.

He also established the TAFE flexilearn centre at Jimboomba and chaired two advisory committees associated with TAFE.

Ron's concern for the community could be seen in his involvement with the Beaudesert and District Health and Welfare Association which, in 2005, became Beaucare. He served as President for two terms in 2004 and 2005 and was also a Board member.

Ron was also heavily involved in equestrian sports, with seven years as President of the Park Ridge Pony Club and four years as Club Zone President.

For 15 years 1986 he was a member of Equestrian Queensland and served for a number of years as President of this organisation until 2000. He was also an eventing course designer and in 2007 spoke of his desire to have seen Beaudesert become home to the State Equestrian Centre after Caboolture was named as the preferred site for this facility.

As a businessman, community volunteer, equestrian and Mayor of Beaudesert Shire, Ron Munn has left a lasting legacy and we extend our sympathies to his family members and friends.
