Community feedback to help shape planning for saleyards' future

Community feedback will help to determine the future use of the Beaudesert Pig and Calf Saleyards
Scenic Rim Regional Council has acknowledged the importance of community feedback which will help to determine the future use of the Beaudesert Pig and Calf Saleyards.
The community consultation report presented at Council’s Ordinary Meeting yesterday showed that respondents supported the adaptive reuse of the site, favouring ideas that create a place for community gathering, while acknowledging the site's agricultural history.
Other key themes that emerged included the importance of cost-effective proposals and appropriate uses that complement both Davidson Park and the revitalisation of the Beaudesert Town Centre.
Division 4 Councillor Jennifer Sanders said the feedback reflected the strong local interest in the saleyards and their legacy.
"I believe Council has done its utmost to engage with residents and stakeholders about this site," she said.
"The results of the consultation will allow Council to develop some ideas and plans for the future use of the saleyards that will pay homage to its history and the people who have shaped our community.
"I hope the community feels it has been listened to and comfortable with the next steps of the process, with a plan to come to Council for consideration and possible approval."
Cr Sanders said the Pig and Calf Saleyards held special significance for many in the Scenic Rim community.
"We heard clearly that people value the agricultural history of the saleyards and want that acknowledged, but they also support new uses, such as community events, that bring people together," she said.
"Council will continue exploring options to deliver on community expectations and explore feasible multi-use options that enhance both the park and the town centre while maintaining the character of the site.
“Council will now consider additional concept plans incorporating minor infrastructure improvements and adaptive reuse opportunities that align with the feedback we’ve received.”
The final community consultation was delivered in two stages: initial targeted stakeholder engagement facilitated by Capire Consulting Group in late 2024, followed by a broader community survey conducted from December 2024 to February 2025.
Community members were able to contribute through Council’s Let’s Talk Scenic Rim online platform, printed surveys, in-person sessions, and written submissions.
The consultation process gathered both qualitative and quantitative data, providing Council with valuable insights to inform future planning for the site.
A summary of the community engagement findings will be made available on Council's Let’s Talk Scenic Rim website.
