Scenic Rim sets its 2026 Ekka public holiday

Scenic Rim residents can mark their calendars now — Monday 10 August 2026 has been confirmed as the region’s official public holiday for the Royal Queensland Show, better known as the Ekka.
The 2026 public holiday date was endorsed at today’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, noting that the 2025 Ekka holiday will be Monday 11 August.
Deputy Mayor Duncan McInnes, who also serves as an Honorary Councillor with the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland, said the nominated date for the Ekka holiday aligned with preferences identified through a region-wide community consultation process in May 2022.
"Residents and business owners strongly supported the first Monday of Ekka week as their preferred public holiday, a decision adopted from 2023 onwards," Cr McInnes said.
“Locking in next year's date well ahead of time allows families, schools, and local businesses to make the most of the Ekka holiday."
