Scenic Rim Regional Council has adopted a new five-year economic development strategy that sets a clear direction for the region’s growth, sustainability and prosperity through to 2030.

The Scenic Rim Economic Development Strategy 2026–2030 was endorsed at today’s Ordinary Council Meeting and outlines 32 targeted actions to drive sustainable growth, support local businesses, attract investment and enhance the region’s liveability and visitor appeal.

Mayor Tom Sharp said the strategy builds on the region’s current economic strengths, which include a Gross Regional Product of $2.4 billion and almost 5,000 local businesses, while providing a roadmap for future growth.

“We’re fortunate to have a strong foundation in key industries like agriculture, tourism, construction, health care and public administration,” Cr Sharp said.

“But to keep that momentum going, we need to plan for the future by securing the infrastructure, skills and investment our communities need to grow.”

Prepared by SC Lennon and Associates, the strategy was informed by comprehensive research and stakeholder engagement.

Stage one of the consultation process occurred in April, with 411 community members and local business representatives sharing their perspectives on attractions, facilities, industries, infrastructure, and services in the Scenic Rim.

Stage two of the consultation process saw the draft document available for community consultation via Council's Let's Talk platform in June and July for the community to reaffirm that the strategy represents the needs and future direction of our region.

"The strategy focuses on workforce development, agricultural innovation, tourism growth, and infrastructure planning, and aims to support strong local employment, sustainable industry, and a strong economy,” Cr Sharp said.

“It’s a guiding document that reflects Council’s long-term commitment to unlocking new opportunities and ensuring the region remains a great place to live, learn, work, visit and invest.”
