Cash in on clutter – Garage Sale Trail hits Scenic Rim this November

Whether it's vintage vinyl or fine fashion, the Garage Sale Trail has something for everyone buying or selling
Scenic Rim residents can turn their trash into cash this November by jumping on board the nationwide Garage Sale Trail, one of Australia’s biggest second-hand shopping events.
With more than 15,000 sales, some 400,000 Australians are expected to take part nationwide in the two-weekend event, held on 8 to 9 and 15 to 6 November.
Mayor Tom Sharp, who is the Scenic Rim's representative on the Council of Mayors Waste Working Group, said the Garage Sale Trail is a win for both the community and the environment.
"Last year we saw 29 local sales with more than 1,500 people attending across the Scenic Rim," he said.
"The average seller made almost $500, proving that second-hand shopping is not only fun, but good for the planet and the pocket.
"Each year the Garage Sale Trail sees tonnes of useable items that would otherwise be consigned to landfill finding new homes and, in the lead up to Christmas, this is a great opportunity to make extra cash."
Registration for the Garage Sale Trail is free and provides access to signs, how-to guides, and promotional tools to make hosting a sale simple.
Families, schools and community groups are also encouraged to join in, with the event offering a fun way to fundraise and teach children about the value of reuse.
“Council is proud to support an event that sees the circular economy in action,” Cr Sharp said.
"It's a fantastic initiative that all Scenic Rim residents can get behind."
