Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen has paid tribute to Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk who announced his retirement today after three decades in local government.

Cr Christensen said that while he wished Cr Quirk all the best for his retirement he would miss his exceptional contribution to the Council of Mayors South East Queensland.

"What I have appreciated from Graham has been his calm, thoughtful and considered leadership and his support through events such as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie," he said.

"His determination to consider the whole of South East Queensland, not just Brisbane, is a testament to his leadership.

"His dedication to the Resilient Rivers Program - to invest in upstream works for the betterment of all - and his commitment to the TransformingSEQ City Deal Proposition are great legacies that evidence his breadth of thinking.

"I wish him well with his future endeavours, which I've no doubt will be equally successful, and he will always be welcome as a friend."

Cr Christensen said he looked forward to working with Cr Quirk's successor and continuing to work with the Council of Mayors which provides a strong platform for advocating for South East Queensland communities.
