COUNCIL SEEKS FEDERAL FUNDING TO ENHANCE COMMUNITY SAFETY IN BOONAH

Scenic Rim Regional Council is seeking Australian Government funding to enhance community safety and security in the revitalised Boonah Town Centre precinct.

At its Ordinary Meeting this week, Scenic Rim Regional Council endorsed a submission for a $33,333 Community Development Grant to install closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) in the Boonah Town Centre.

With enhanced liveability and community safety at the heart of Council's Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages (VATV) projects, Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said it was important for community members to feel safe as they go about their day-to-day activities.

"Council is committed to enhancing the safety of our communities and has prioritised the need for CCTV coverage in both Beaudesert and Boonah to act as a deterrent for inappropriate behaviour," he said.

"The Beaudesert community is already safer with CCTV cameras recently installed within Jubilee Park, and Council is hopeful this level of confidence will be replicated with our Boonah residents.

"The Boonah VATV development has provided a great opportunity for Council to integrate the security cameras into existing infrastructure at the Boonah Customer Service Centre, with the security cameras to be installed within the forecourt and rear carpark.

"Council will be able to tap into the electrical infrastructure that has been installed as part of the redevelopment, which means there will be minimal costs to Council," said Cr Christensen.

The grant application will be submitted to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, which provides funding for local infrastructure projects to improve amenities and facilities.
